Board Game Café

Lovers of board games get together monthly on Thursday afternoons from 2 to 4pm. Enjoy a variety of games old and new or bring your own to play with others. Open and free of charge for all.

Book Club

Meeting on the third Saturday of each month at 10.30 am, the Book Club provides an interesting and varied discussion group of book recommendations. It is amazing to hear about the books that everyone has read and enjoyed and passing on to each others to share the pleasure.

The attendance fluctuates between 8 – 15 people each month and is open to anyone who loves reading, whether on an e-reader, audio books, or in print. We begin with coffee, tea and often cake!

Food Bank

Churches Together in  Wendover have become part of the Chiltern foodbank scheme (see http://chiltern.foodbank.org.uk/ for more details). It is coordinated by St Mary’s Chesham. All food is donated by the public and sorted by volunteers. Frontline care professionals (doctors, social workers) identify people in crisis, who receive three days of non-perishable food. Foodbanks also try to make time to chat and signpost clients to other helpful services.
There are various ways in which we can help:
Donate food. We will collect donations on the first Sunday of each month. Non-perishable items are needed and the Chiltern Foodbank website home page shows items that are in short supply and a link to a shopping list (http://chiltern.foodbank.org.uk/).
Donate money to meet operating costs.

Volunteer to help in one of several ways.

  • Tell others and encourage others to volunteer and let those in need know how the scheme can help.
  • Pray – make the scheme and those in need a subject of prayer.
  • Please ask John Shaw for details of how to volunteer or donate money.  John can be contacted at shaw4john@gmail.com or on 07899 964037.

If you know someone in need of help in this way get them to contact one of the referral partners (details can be found at http://chiltern.foodbank.org.uk/resources/documents/foodbank/Distributors-list-for-website-10.7.13.pdf) so that a voucher for the food can be issued. Alternatively phone the Wenover Distribution Centre help line on 07926 099199.

Poetry Please

Friendly, informal and fun: our poetry reading group meets on the 1st Friday of each month from 10.30 am – 12 noon in The Christian Centre. It is a relaxed time of sharing poems on a chosen theme, interesting conversation and always concludes with refreshments. A diverse range of poets from William Shakespeare to Pam Ayres have brought to life explorations of love and friendship, travel and distant lands, dance and laughter, to name but a few. We usually number a dozen or more and is open to anyone. Please contact us for more information.
